Hazardous Materials Specialist

Description:

DH Environmental's Project Services group has an opportunity for a  Hazardous Materials Specialist. This position will perform a range of office and field duties related to hazardous materials/waste management. Duties will include, but will not be limited to the following:

 

  • Hazardous waste packaging, labeling, profiling and manifesting

  • Coordination of transportation and disposal activities for regulated facilities and cleanup projects

  • Environmental inspection of industrial sites, hazardous materials storage facilities, and heavy construction projects

  • Sampling of environmental media and hazardous wastes

  • Performing field chemical tests and analysis of environmental media and hazardous wastes with field instruments

  • Supervision of subcontracted services

  • Interpretation of chemical analytical data and application to all pertinent regulations

  • Researching and determining regulatory requirements for industrial facilities and construction sites

  • Preparation of technical reports

  • Client interface

  • Other duties as directed by Supervisor

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

Work will be in both office and field environments with potential for exposure to adverse weather and heavy industrial site conditions. Employee must be medically fit to work in a respirator and all levels of personal protection equipment (PPE Levels A-D). Some travel and after hours work may be required.


Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, physical science, or environmental science with an emphasis in environmental chemistry is preferred. Individuals with a relevant associates degree and a minimum of five years of experience in hazardous materials management and implementation of RCRA, DOT, and OSHA regulatory programs may be considered. Employee must have general computer skills and proficiency with MS Office programs, and digital camera operation.

 

Special Requirements and Expectations:

Employee must have the ability to obtain and maintain a variety of certifications, training and security credentials. These credentials may include:

  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

  • 40 hr HAZWOPER - per 29 CFR 1910.120

  • 8 hr HAZWOPER Supervisor Training - per 29 CFR 1910.120 (e)(4)(8)

  • 24 hr DOT Hazardous Waste, and Materials Management Certification - per 49 CFR 172.704(a)

  • Annual RCRA and DOT Training for Shippers of Hazardous Waste – per 49 CFR 172.700 and 40 CFR264/265.16 

  • SeaTac Airport Security Badge (Blue/driver)

  • Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC)

  • Industrial First Aid/CPR

  • Respiratory Fit Test

  • Bloodborne Pathogen Training

 

Project Engineer

Description:

DH Environmental's growing consulting practice has an opportunity for a  Project Engineer. This is a multi-discipline position requiring multimedia environmental experience. The successful candidate is one who transitions well from the field to an office environment and has excellent technical writing and communication skills. Responsibilities will include technical project management as well as business development. The successful candidate will have the capability to efficiently respond to opportunities, prepare proposals, engage clients as well as manage multiple projects concurrently. Example projects include industrial stormwater NPDES permit management, SPCC Plan development, air quality/NESHAP compliance, construction project support, multimedia compliance auditing, and environmental training.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in engineering or physical science

  • Ability to self start and efficiently manage time and company resources

  • 4+ years of environmental consulting and project management

  • Multimedia sampling experience 

  • Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to obtain Washington PE license within one year

  • Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills

  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment as well as an office setting

  • Proficiency in Washington State and federal environmental/hazardous materials regulations

  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record

  • Ability to pass federal background checks and obtain security badges (TWIC, SeaTac Airport, military bases, etc.).


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experienced technical writer

  • Industrial stormwater management experience

  • Hazardous Waste/Dangerous Waste management experience

  • Government contracting experience

  • Well rounded computer software skills and adaptable to new programs (MS Office, SharePoint, CAD, GIS, etc.)
